Adrien Brody plays Leonard Chess, the founder of a 1950s record label featuring African American blues singers. Notable for the ripe musical performances by its cast, “Cadillac Records” refers to the car Chess purchases for his most valuable players. Songs by Muddy Waters (Wright), Chuck Berry (Def), Etta James (Knowles) and others permeate the soundtrack, though the script, written by director Darnell Martin, is ambiguous about whether Chess paid them their rightful share.
