In October 2008, Rachel McAdams was announced to be starring in Guy Ritchie’s new film Sherlock Holmes, based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic stories. McAdams will play the role of Irene Adler alongside Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law. Filming began in October 2008 for release on Christmas Day 2009.
She also played Clare Abshire in The Time Traveler’s Wife, which was released on August 14th 2009. The film was based on Audrey Niffenegger’s 2003 novel of the same name. Filming began in September 2007, originally in anticipation of a fall 2008 release. The film’s release was postponed with initially no official explanation from the studio. McAdams later noted that the delay was due to reshoots that could not be completed until the season at their outdoor location matched previously filmed footage, and Eric Bana had regrown his hair following his work on the 2009 film Star Trek. On August 13, 2009 she was interviewed on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, during which she accidentally gave away the entire movie plot.
