Jewel Belair Staite (born June 2, 1982) is a Canadian actress, best known for her roles as Kaylee Frye in Firefly & Serenity, and as Dr. Jennifer Keller on Stargate Atlantis.
One of Staite’s most famous roles is as Kaylee Frye in the short-lived science fiction/western television series Firefly and its subsequent 2005 film, Serenity. She also wrote a chapter in the book Finding Serenity, called “Kaylee Speaks: Jewel Staite On Firefly”. She also played Heidi Gotts, the antagonist in the TV series Wonderfalls, which, like Firefly, was cancelled by FOX.
She currently plays the role of head of medicine Dr. Jennifer Keller in the Stargate SG-1 spinoff Stargate Atlantis, making her the third actor from the Firefly series to move on to appear in a Stargate series (the first being Adam Baldwin and the second being Morena Baccarin), and the second to take a recurring role. She replaced Paul McGillion (Dr. Carson Beckett). In the fifth season her character was changed from recurring status to part of the main cast.[1] Before taking on the role as Dr. Keller she previously played the Wraith child Ellia in the Stargate Atlantis episode “Instinct”.
So it was no huge surprise that Dr. Jennifer Keller and Dr. Rodney McKay were going to start taking their flirting to a whole new level this season, I just didn’t know it would break my heart to see them flirt so. Take care of him Keller, McKay is a jewel. Producer Joseph Malozzi included some pictures from the set of “Brain Storm” where Keller and McKay flirt and mingle amongst the brainiest of science minds including one Bill Nye the Science Guy and Neil deGrasse Tyson, very cool Atlantis.
Also it appears as if Kids In The Hall alum Dave Foley will have a little cameo in the “Brain Storm” episode. Classic. If this is what happens when Atlantis lets Gero direct, I say let’s put him in the director’s chair more often.
