Danica Patrick-female auto racing driver
->
The IndyCar Series has one of the longest off-seasons in motor racing, which gives Danica Patrick plenty of time to burnish the popular driver’s brand image.
Car racers often exceed 200 miles per hour on the track, but that doesn’t mean progress for women in this male-dominated sport has come at a similar pace. In 1977, Janet Guthrie was the first female to compete in the Indianapolis 500, the flagship event in the IndyCar Series. Though several women have tried, it wasn’t until 31 years later that a woman, Danica Patrick, actually won a race on the IndyCar circuit–a goal that has eluded many veteran male drivers.

Her April 2008 victory in the Indy Japan 300 in Motegi, Japan, made the 26-year-old Patrick, from Roscoe, Illinois, one of the top professional auto racers in the U.S.
Such was the case Wednesday, as Patrick starred in a commercial being shot in a Sylmar soundstage for one of her sponsors, GoDaddy.com, scheduled to appear during this season’s Super Bowl telecast.
